چکیده

Abstract. A comprehensive compilation of observed records is needed for accurate quantification surface mass balance (SMB) over Antarctica, which a key challenge calculation Antarctic contribution to global sea level change. Here, we present the AntSMB dataset: new quality-controlled dataset variety published field measurements Ice Sheet SMB by means stakes, snow pits, ice cores, ultrasonic sounders, and ground-penetrating radar (GPR). The collects 3579 individual multi-year-averaged observations, 687 annually resolved time series from 675 sites extending back past 1000 years, daily covering 245 years 32 across whole sheet. These are derived stakes/stake farms, sounders. Furthermore, GPR included in dataset, an area 22 025 km2. This first ice-sheet-scale at different temporal (daily, annual, multi-year) resolutions multiple types measurement available https://doi.org/10.11888/Glacio.tpdc.271148 (Wang et al., 2021). database has potentially wide applications such as investigation spatial variability SMB, model validation, assessment remote sensing retrievals, data assimilation. As case estimation, used assess performance ERA5 Antarctica.

Mass balance of the Antarctic ice sheet.

The Antarctic contribution to sea-level rise has long been uncertain. While regional variability in ice dynamics has been revealed, a picture of mass changes throughout the continental ice sheet is lacking. Here, we use satellite radar altimetry to measure the elevation change of 72% of the grounded ice sheet during the period 1992-2003. Depending on the density of the snow giving rise to the o...

Surface mass-balance changes of the Greenland ice sheet

Mass loss from the Greenland ice sheet over the past decade has caused the impression that the ice sheet has been behaving anomalously to the warming of the 1990s. We have reconstructed the recent (1866–2005) surface mass-balance (SMB) history of the Greenland ice sheet on a 5 5 km grid using a runoff-retention model based on the positive degree-day method. The model is forced with new datasets...

Changes in ice dynamics and mass balance of the Antarctic ice sheet.

The concept that the Antarctic ice sheet changes with eternal slowness has been challenged by recent observations from satellites. Pronounced regional warming in the Antarctic Peninsula triggered ice shelf collapse, which led to a 10-fold increase in glacier flow and rapid ice sheet retreat. This chain of events illustrated the vulnerability of ice shelves to climate warming and their buffering...

Ice flow of the Antarctic ice sheet.

We present a reference, comprehensive, high-resolution, digital mosaic of ice motion in Antarctica assembled from multiple satellite interferometric synthetic-aperture radar data acquired during the International Polar Year 2007 to 2009. The data reveal widespread, patterned, enhanced flow with tributary glaciers reaching hundreds to thousands of kilometers inland over the entire continent. Thi...

Mass Balance of the Greenland Ice Sheet at High Elevations.

Comparison of ice discharge from higher elevation areas of the entire Greenland Ice Sheet with total snow accumulation gives estimates of ice thickening rates over the past few decades. On average, the region has been in balance, but with thickening of 21 centimeters per year in the southwest and thinning of 30 centimeters per year in the southeast. The north of the ice sheet shows less variabi...
